Shiredale's Showing Philosophies
Here at Shiredale we go to shows to have fun!  I am NOT
a competitive person at all and like to go to shows to off
the girls.  I am also a HUGE believer in natural movement,
natural presence (un-enhanced or mellowed), basically I
just want the horses being horses.  As a result, I refuse to
shoe my horses with Scotch Bottoms.  They can cause far
more harm than good in the long run, enhancing ringbone
and sidebone, so is just something I am not willing to put
on the girls.  Plus as I said earlier I like to see them move
naturally, so the girls are kept trimmed every 8 weeks but
don't wear shoes of any kind.

Shiredale also does not enhance or mellow their mood or
personality.  The girls are the way they are because of
HOURS of training, handling, loving, and taking the time
to bond with them.  Horses are very willing to work for
their people and they love to please, so we work with these
natural tendencies to create the ultimate team!  Below you
will find the common horses you will see at a show!
Black Forest Ides of March (aka Heidi)
1997 Bay Shire Mare
Heidi excelled as a halter horse in her younger years, but she
is now 13yrs old and is slowly starting to look her age (her
crest doesn't stand up like it used to :)).  You will still see her
in the occasional halter class, but are far more likely to see
her in a riding class at a show.  She is certainly the one you
will see at local community events.  She does all the
performances at our church here in Phoenix and is a huge
hit!  So Heidi doesn't play as huge of a role in the show ring
any more but she is still leaving her mark at community
events and by producing phenomenal Shires that are just
beginning their showing careers!
Tumbled Dinah (Dinah)
2006 Black and White Gypsy Mare
DJ Dina Mare x Clononeen Tumbleweed
Dinah is certainly the one that is most often seen at the shows.  She has
been to shows in AZ, CA, and CO and has done really well at all of her
shows!  She is a phenomenal young mare with a hugely bright future ahead
of her!  Dinah currently just shows in halter classes, but went through 3
months of driving training from June to September 2009.  She will also be
broke to ride in 2010 so she will be showing in halter, driving and riding in
the future!
Black Forest Ideal Faye (Faye)
2003 Grey Shire Mare
Gladwin Lucky Grey Lady x Earnshaw Ideal
Faye is brand new to Shiredale and made her show ring debut
December 11th 2009 and that was her very first show ever!  She
did a wonderful job and was perfectly behaved!  She is the newest
to join the show string and will certainly be seen at shows in the
future including the 2010 National Shire Show in OK!  Faye is
currently just shown in halter but will soon be trained to ride and
will then be showing in both halter and under saddle events.
Shiredale Joey's Adrianna (Adrianna)
2009 Bay Shire Mare
Black Forest Ides of March x Gronant Joseph
Adrianna was just born this year but is sure to leave her mark on
the Shire world in the coming years!  She also attended her first
show on December 11th 2009 and will continue her show career
in the coming years including the 2010 National Shire Show.  She
will be shown in halter till she is 3-4 years old when she will begin
her riding career.  Adrianna is a super sweet girl and catches the
eye of anyone that meets her :)!
