Joey's final foals have hit the ground. His foal tallies are 8 fillies and 3 colts. We are unsure about future foals, depends if his frozen semen works!
BREAKING NEWS: Unfortunately, on November 29th 2010, Joey was humaenly euthanized after enduring a bout of colic known as Epiploic
Foramen Entrapment, basically this small triangular area near the liver that bowel can get trapped in. On November 27th, we knew something
wasn't right as he wasn't interested in breakfast. Within an hour he was presenting classic colic signs (up and down, looking at sides, pawing, etc).
We gave him Banamine, Tubed him, and started running IV Fluids. We couldn't get his pain level down and his heart rate of 58 proved that. So off
to Southwest Equine Medical and Surgical Center in Scottsdale, AZ we went. Upon doing a work up on him we found it was far more serious than
we thought and surgery would be needed to save him. So at 4:30pm he went in for surgery, in surgery they found he had the epiploic foramen
entrapment and worst of all, the illium of his small intestine was trapped, had strangulated and was now dead. So the illium needed to be removed
which is very risky as the illium is the motor of the intestinal track and without it we didn't know how well he would do but it need to come out so
they resected it and conjoined the duodenum to his cecum. He recovered great and I got to visit him first thing November 28th, and spent two hours
with him in the evening. He had to be kept slightly sedated due to the pain of massive surgery, but he recognized me and was happy to see him.
His guts unfortunately hadn't started moving normally yet. So I spent all day November 29th with him at the hospital while we tried every drug we
could think of to encourage gut motility all to no avail. His gut was quiet and wasn't moving and his discomfort level was increasing even with
sedation. His surgery site was starting to leak also greatly increasing the risk of peritonitis. So at 6pm we decided it was time to humanely end his
discomfort and let him live a pain free life in heaven. At 7pm we administered the anestesia and I sat with him and stroked his head saying my
goodbyes as he breathed his last.
Joey was the best horse I have ever known and had the pleasure of dealing with. He would go to the end of the earth for me and I the same for
him. We were soulmates, the long running joke at Desert Jewel is he was my boyfriend. He responded to me like he did to no one else. Joey, I
will miss you unconditionally forever and for always. You were a true "gentle giant" and the best horse I have had the pleasure to be around.
You will be missed incredibly and I long pictured us growing old together. You were taken far too young but you must have bigger things in
store in heaven. I love you forever and for always and can't wait for the day we meet again. Until then your few children will live out their
days with us so we have a constant reminder of you. I love you Joey! RIP Jo!
Joey has his last foals due in 2011. They will all be keepers as they are all we have left out of him. Joey's last foals expected are: Heidi (Feb 24th),
Dahlia (April 2nd), Faye (April 23rd), April (Gypsy mare due May 1st). Stay tuned for birth announcements as they are born! RIP Joey!

Joey is a 2005 Shire stallion owned by Desert Jewel Gypsy

and he is a son of the immortal Walton Supreme. He covered
his first mares in 2008 and first foals were born in 2009, one

4 more foals on the ground in 2010 (all 4 fillies!!!). Joey is

with, this page is just for photo reference of Joey and his

Sadly on November 2nd 2011, Josh was euthanized after an extremely short, extremely
fast onset of colic (displacement of colon) and after a couple pain relievers failed he was
euthanized to go join Joey and Jayden. RIP Josh, you were a beautiful boy!
